Being a newbie to php development I have only recently began searching for better ways of developing web applications. I used to work with .NET but have shifted to php because the company I contract for (invokemedia) is php based. In this article, I’ll explain my own personal (programmer’s) experience of shifting to a completely different language and the many ups and downs that I’ve encountered.

Disclaimer: I am comparing PHP 5 to .NET 2.0 (not any lower, or higher)

.NET = less choice but better tools?

A big difference between working with PHP and .NET is choice. With .NET you really only have one way to go, use Visual Studio or Web Developer Express (freebie version) and implement their code using the .NET framework with several languages at your disposal.
